FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ENTREPRENEUR CHALLENGES GIRLS TO
PURSUE CAREERS,
RISE ABOVE SOCIAL PRESSURES
Girls Know How® Book Series Launches Raising the Roof
Downingtown, PA – September 1, 2005 – Because girls in
middle school often shift attention from achievement and
personal goals to social acceptance and body consciousness,
entrepreneur and author Ellen Langas Campbell wants them to
pursue the careers of their dreams rather than succumb to
social pressures.
Langas Campbell, an accomplished entrepreneur, actress
and voice-over artist, has created the Girls Know How® book
series to encourage readers, ages 8 – 12. See
www.girlsknowhow.com.
“We hope to inspire girls to follow their dreams through
exposing them to a variety of careers, exceptional role
models and characters who might be just like them,” says
Langas Campbell, who previously was a popular on-air host
and corporate officer for television retailer QVC, Inc.
Each book within the fictional series features spirited
characters presented with a challenge who are encouraged by
a character based on a real-life successful woman.
The latest book in the series, Raising the Roof
(ISBN 0-9743604-1-4), spotlights construction. The story
follows three fifth-grade girlfriends who attempt to outwit
a rival group of boys who have taken over their clubhouse.
Encouraged by the head of a major construction company –
a character based on Linda Alvarado, President, Alvarado
Construction, Denver, Colo. – they accept the challenge to
build their own and learn there is a lot more to building
than hammers and nails, says Langas Campbell.
The girls’ shared experience helps them discover their
potential, and they rally their families and classmates to
combine efforts and participate in a future Habitat for
Humanity project.
“When someone discovers he or she has the capability to
make a difference through building, no matter how small or
grand, great things can happen,” says Fiona Eastwood,
Director of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program.
“Raising the Roof plants the seed by encouraging girls to
explore careers that they may never have considered before.
Building together, at any age, boosts skills and self
esteem, causes positive social change and is fun.”
The first book in the series, Will Stephanie Get
the Story? (ISBN 0-9743604-0-6), focuses on
journalism. Next in the series, a book featuring teaching.
